Interview: Background and Approach
Who I am and what makes me tick.
What prompted you to start a career in marketing contract compliance?
As a newly qualified Chartered Accountant, I was eager to begin a new venture and specialise within a specific industry. The marketing contract compliance sector was a particularly intriguing area to work in, with its own unique quirks and complexities. The icing on the cake is to be part of a close knit and experienced team who are eager to share their knowledge with me.
How has your previous experience helped you at Financial Progression?
My previous four years in audit at PwC have provided a solid foundation of knowledge and experience. I have previously worked within multiple audit areas, from completing financial external audits and internal audits to being a technology expert and assessing client IT controls. This has allowed me to adapt to a very wide variety of audit work and hone my technical skills. Prior to my audit background, I completed a degree in Politics, Philosophy and Economics whilst working at a care home. During this time, I had to learn quickly how to deal with difficult situations, get the best out of people, and juggle multiple commitments!
Which part of your work gives you the greatest sense of achievement?
Once I have completed a piece of work, I like to take a step back to look at the results and what I have learnt. Being able to provide outstanding customer experience is something that is very important to me and this requires continual self reflection and growth.
How would people describe you?
My friends and family would describe me as fun, loyal and compassionate. Whereas my colleagues and clients would describe me as hard-working, organised and adaptable. In fact, a previous client of mine once called me assiduous, which was a delight to hear!
What motivates you to do what you do?
Providing great service to my clients and the resulting satisfaction that stems from that. I enjoy building upon my knowledge and experience so that I can continue to add value. In a nutshell, I am motivated by the desire to be good at what I do.
What can you be found doing when you’re not at work?
Most of my free time is spent outside on walks, swimming, or playing with my two dogs. However, after a long day of work you will likely find me enjoying a cup of tea on the sofa! I also enjoy spending time with my family and friends, playing sports and going to gigs when I can.
